Planting and harvesting crops, milking cows, visiting and helping co-farmers, tilling the land to a sophisticated agribusiness property, and limitless gaining of wealth and land expansion… all originating in some effortless-multitasking online hours a day. Millions of people become a virtual farmer expressing themselves through their colorful farm designs and this, I call, the FarmVille Habit – people from all over the world, students or professionals, people (with online access) from all walks of life, has integrated farming into their multitasking- online social life. Sounds crazy?

FarmVille by Zynga has gained the most popular game on FaceBook, acquiring more than 73 million monthly active users up to this date (www.appdata.com). Perhaps, these 73 million FarmVille devotees was captivated by the thought of building a blooming farm, without fear of storm, tornadoes and droughts, and by just sitting in front of a computer in a rather subtle farm success competition among network friends.

In fact, you are able view your network of friend’s farm, and there is a social leader board below which creates this subtle competition in farm-design and success, and is also driving users to increase the time spend per day.

Once you build a farm, the idea of inviting a friend to start a farm and helping them out by giving some gifts and all, attracted more people to this application. In addition, the process of you-have-to-harvest-at-this-hour-or-else-your-farm-will-look-devastated is driving normal person to an active FarmVille user and so acquired millions of devotees.

Indeed, the FarmVille has a smart game strategy obviously successful in winning millions of users. More than having a colorful, and fun cartooned graphics, perhaps they were able to tap into every person’s subconscious being responsible, being a good entrepreneur and being successful.
